Locally Grown, Locally Owned

Fresh and Local

Wild Oats, located in the beautiful hills and valleys of western Massachusetts, is close to many small organic farmers and food producers. As a small, independent cooperative business, we are guided by the high standards, discriminating tastes and healthy eating habits of our members and customers -- not by a sales plan from corporate headquarters.

We are able to offer a large and changing variety of locally grown produce every day, in addition to local artisan cheeses, local handmade yogurt, and local dairy products. We also stock locally raised eggs, grass-fed beef, local naturally raised poultry, locally produced bulk nuts and seeds, locally made kombucha, and much, much more. When you visit our store, you will find that every one of our departments offers local items. Just look for the Eat Local decal or ask one of our staff members for help

Wild Oats offers a large and varied selection of local foods. Selling foods that are locally grown or produced is central to our mission as a community business.

Wild Oats defines "local food" as food that is grown, produced or processed within a 100-mile radius of the store. Food that is grown includes all the produce we sell that grows within 100 miles of Williamstown, such as corn, blueberries and squash during the growing season. Food that is produced includes dairy products such as artisanal cheeses, yogurt and milk; eggs; and meat, fish and poultry that are produced within a 100-mile radius. Food that is locally processed includes foods that are made ready for consumption by local businesses and that travel less than 100 miles to reach Wild Oats. Many of our bulk items, such as locally made granola and locally roasted nuts, fall into this category.

Our local farmers are a big reason why many of our customers come back to shop at Wild Oats again and again, and why many of our members chose to join our co-op. We are dedicated to offering the best selection of locally grown and produced products in the region -- and as an independent food cooperative, we choose where to source our products from.

There are many good reasons to buy local. On average, local foods travel 1,450 fewer miles than their conventional counterparts. Local foods create a "circle of support" among farmers, families, communities and local economies. Local foods are fresher, healthier and taste better, and local farms help preserve open spaces.

Local Products

Wild Oats Market offers a wide and ever-changing selection of locally produced and grown foods throughout the year. Our local products include produce, meat, poultry, fish, grains, eggs, dairy, bulk items, health and wellness items, and more. When you are shopping in the store, look for the orange shelf tag. This indicates that a product is local.
